Bachelor in Economics (BSc)

The BSc in Economics at Leuphana University Lüneburg is a 6-semester programme starting in the winter semester. It addresses questions in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, market structure, competition, and the role of the state, training students to apply formal mathematical models and statistical methods to real-world economic and policy problems. The first semester provides methodological foundations in mathematics, statistics, and regression methods alongside an introduction to basic economic concepts. In the second and third semesters, students engage with macroeconomics and microeconomics as the core subjects of the degree, connecting economic theory to current policy debates. From the fourth and fifth semesters, students choose from a range of electives spanning monetary policy, economic policy, economic growth, happiness research, and economic analysis of law, allowing them to deepen specific interests. The programme is embedded in Leuphana's interdisciplinary college study model, which includes the Leuphana Semester, a minor programme, and complementary studies giving students exposure to other fields of knowledge. The degree concludes with a Bachelor's thesis. Graduates are prepared for roles in supranational and international institutions, political consultancy, education, research, IT, healthcare, or environment and sustainability.
