The Doctoral Programme in Literary Studies at Tampere University trains researchers to carry out independent scientific work in the analysis of literature, society, and culture. The programme places the dissertation and its associated research skills at its core, and graduates are expected to understand and contribute to the development of literary scholarship. The programme has particular strength in narrative research, where theoretical and analytical understanding of literary forms and their history is applied to questions of cultural and social change.
