Doctoral Programme in Languages and Translation Studies

This four-year doctoral programme at the University of Turku trains language specialists to work at the intersections of multilingualism, intercultural communication, and language research. The programme's focus goes beyond language as a practical tool, developing candidates' capacity to analyse languages and interaction in depth and to situate that analysis within broader social and cultural contexts. Graduating candidates are expected to have a developed scholarly identity that includes engagement with international networks, academic publishing, and mobility. The programme aims to produce researchers with both the analytical skills and the professional orientation to operate as language experts in global academic communities.
