The Department of Materials Science & Engineering at KAIST studies the structure, properties, and processing of the materials used to build modern technology, including metals, ceramics, polymers, semiconductors, and nanomaterials. Students learn how a material's atomic and molecular structure determines its mechanical, electrical, and optical properties, and how that understanding can guide the design of new materials for specific applications.
