Managing and analysing Big Data has become an essential part of modern finance, retail, marketing, social science, research and development, medicine, industry, academia and government. The curriculum provides a solid grounding in the theory, methods and techniques used in data science, including discrete and continuous mathematical concepts, statistics, probability, and the theoretical foundations of machine learning and data analytics.

Upon completion of the 60 ECTS taught component, students have a solid background in the theory considered a pre-requisite for data science practitioners, before completing a research dissertation.

Entry Requirements (International Applicants)

Applicants must be in possession of one of the following:

Bachelor's degree (MQF Level 6) obtained with at least Second Class Honours/Category II in ICT, an area with a strong ICT component, or Engineering — for Data Science, other suitable areas may also be considered
Bachelor's degree with Third Class Honours/Category III in the above areas, supported by other qualifications or relevant work experience, subject to interview
Any other Honours degree obtained with at least Second Class Honours, subject to completing designated preparatory study-units

English Test Requirement

IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each of Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking); TOEFL iBT 95 overall / min. 24 Writing (pre-January-2026 scale) or 5 overall / min. 5 Writing (January-2026-onwards scale); or equivalent: Cambridge Advanced Certificate Grade C or better, Pearson PTE Academic 71 (min. 65 per element), Trinity ISE III Merit in all skills, or ISET Band 6. Results must be issued within 2 years of course commencement and be a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
