The Criminal Justice Major enrolls you in Introduction to Criminal Justice, where you may visit Boston Municipal Court to see procedure in action and observe arraignments and motion trials.

Through this major, you will assess how illegal behavior is defined, and how social inequalities of race, class, gender, sexuality, and age influence what is seen as crime and what is seen as justice. You will develop policy analysis and research skills within a social justice framework, and produce research projects and other creative works that address pressing real-world social or criminological problems.

You will also gain a solid understanding of the American criminal justice system within its broader historical and institutional contexts, examining how its procedures create or exacerbate inequalities. You can explore electives including restorative justice, crime and mental health, violence, law and public policy, policing, global criminology, and juvenile justice.
