The Nottingham Business School is triple crown accredited with EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA and this PhD in Context, Informality and the Practice of Project Management examines entrepreneurs in informal economies, exploring how they plan, coordinate, and deliver projects without formal systems, and how socio-cultural environments shape project management tools. This research focuses on two key strands: the practices of entrepreneurs in the Global South, and the influence of organisational, industrial, and socio-cultural factors on project management tools and behaviours.

It is a three-year full-time or six-year part-time project involving two supervisors, Dr Chinomso Nwagboso and Sulaimon Adebiyi, with candidates able to focus on informal economies, global south, or on cultural and industrial variations in project management. The research will utilise methodologies including ethnography, comparative case studies, mixed-methods research, and practice-based analysis. Applicants should have a background in management, sociology, economics, or related fields, with prior fieldwork experience being an advantage.
