About Master in Computational Modelling and Simulation

The Master's programme in Computational Modelling and Simulation (CMS) at Dresden University of Technology is a research-oriented, interdisciplinary programme jointly run by the Faculty of Computer Science, the Faculty of Mathematics, and the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), with participation from the Faculties of Psychology, Medicine, Economics, and Mechanical Engineering. The programme teaches the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of computational modelling — including machine learning, inverse problems, and artificial intelligence — alongside computer simulation methods such as numerical simulation and logic. The 4-semester programme begins in the winter semester and comprises three semesters of coursework and one semester for the Master's thesis. The structure includes an application-independent core area — covering three foundational theory modules, a transferable skills module, a seminar module, and a research project — as well as one application-specific specialisation track chosen at the time of application. Available tracks include Computational Life Sciences, Computational Mathematics, Visual Computing, Computational Modelling in Energy Economics, Computational Engineering, and Applied Artificial Intelligence.
