The programme runs over two academic years. In the first year you complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Community Mental Health Nursing, which consists of six modules worth a total of 90 ECTS – four core modules, a clinical placement and one elective. After the diploma you may either exit with the diploma qualification or continue for a further year, completing a 30-ECTS research dissertation to obtain the Master of Health Science.

One of the core modules, Making Recovery a Reality, focuses on the recovery philosophy and the CHIME processes (connectedness, hope, identity, meaningful role, personal agency). It develops skills to help service users move from illness management toward a resilient, self-determined identity, and includes learning outcomes on co-production, psychosocial interventions and community-oriented services.

The course is aimed at qualified mental health care professionals who already work in community or primary mental health settings and wish to deepen their theoretical knowledge and research capability. It suits those holding an appropriate undergraduate nursing or health science degree and seeking to advance to senior practice, specialist roles or doctoral study.
