PhD in CiM-IMPRS PhD Programme in Life and Natural Sciences

The CiM-IMPRS PhD Programme in Life and Natural Sciences is an eight-semester doctoral programme run jointly by the Cells in Motion Interfaculty Centre (CiM) at Münster University and the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. It begins each winter semester and is conducted in English. The programme emphasises interdisciplinary approaches to biomedical research, with imaging as a central theme. PhD projects span a wide range of areas including basic cellular processes, clinical translation, mathematical modelling, and the development of new imaging techniques and compounds. Research areas covered include cell and molecular biology, developmental and stem cell biology, vascular biology, immunology, microbiology, neurobiology, in vivo imaging, high-resolution optical imaging, biophysics, chemical biology, label chemistry, and mathematical modelling. Each PhD student has an individual advisory committee consisting of a principal doctoral adviser and additional mentors who monitor academic progress and provide access to research infrastructure. The programme offers a limited mandatory scientific curriculum and a broader voluntary programme in scientific and transferable skills. The programme is based in Münster, Germany.
