Master in Chemistry

The Master of Science in Chemistry at the University of Siegen is a four-semester programme that builds on a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, deepening knowledge through a mix of mandatory and elective research-oriented modules. The programme begins each winter semester and is taught in English. The first semester develops knowledge in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry through lectures, seminars, and laboratory courses, with additional options in analytical chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, or building chemistry. In the second and third semesters students begin to specialise and engage with modern research topics. Specialisation areas include analytical, building, inorganic, materials, macromolecular, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry, as well as theme-based tracks in Materials and Interfaces, Light and Matter, or Molecular Sciences. Course topics span a wide range including biomimetic molecular machines, chemo- and biosensors, ionic liquids, ultrafast laser spectroscopy, nanotechnology, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, among others. The final semester is given to the Master's thesis, carried out with a professor in the chosen specialist area.
