Graduates of Chemical Biology at Roskilde University contribute to the development and production of medicines, drug delivery systems, and biotechnology products. They can work in research, development, and production roles in pharmaceutical, biotech, health, and food sectors. They can also pursue roles in education and consultancy and join research groups at RUC or other universities as PhD students.

You will learn to approach biological questions from a chemical perspective, using advanced experimental methods and instruments. Modules include Essential Organic Chemistry, Advanced Eukaryotic Cell Biology, and Applied Spectroscopy. You can specialise in areas such as Chemistry in biological systems, Protein properties & function, or Omics.

The programme has a strong focus on practical skills and research, with access to state-of-the-art equipment and experts in the fields of chemistry, biology, and physics. The programme is designed to prepare students for a wide variety of modern companies and research groups.

Students may choose to work on projects such as the Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of Cationic Lipids for Gene Delivery, Molecular design for creating biodegradable plastic, and Investigating the structure-function relationship of cellulase variants for production of 2nd generation bioethanol.

Students at Roskilde University are taught to identify a problem, analyze it deeply, choose and implement methodologies, and establish a strong theoretical framework, all under the guidance of a researcher.
