About the Program

The Master of Science in Business Mathematics at Marburg University develops professional knowledge, skills, and methods in mathematics and economics, preparing students to work independently at an advanced scientific level. Students broaden and deepen competencies from their bachelor's studies through a large selection of electives in both disciplines, gaining an overview of the technical contexts of business mathematics and engaging with current research literature. The 120-credit programme spans four semesters. Compulsory elective modules in Mathematics (27–30 ECTS) cover modern mathematical application methods. A Business and Economics Focus Area (24 ECTS) offers four options: Accounting and Finance; Market-Oriented Management; Information and Innovation Management; or Economics. Free compulsory elective modules (36–39 ECTS) allow further personalisation, and an internship is required — either an external placement applying skills in a professional setting or an internal placement focused on algorithmic software implementation. A Master's thesis (30 ECTS) forms the final phase. Exams may be taken in English or German. Applicants must hold at least 144 ECTS at the time of application. The programme starts in the winter or summer semester and is based at Marburg University in Marburg, Germany.
