Programme Profile

The International MBA is a practitioner-oriented programme grounded in the latest research on strategic management. It prepares students for leadership roles in private or public organisations by focusing on leadership, economics, finance, operations, information systems, innovation, human capital, marketing, governance and strategy.

Through interdisciplinary and interconnecting units, the programme provides subject matter mastery alongside training in 21st-century skills such as decision-making, ethical conduct, strategic diagnosis, presentation techniques, teamwork and self-paced reflection. Students carry out an applied research project developing strategic plans for an organisation, guided by a supervisor or mentor. The programme features international guest lecturers and the possibility of a study tour to a European city.

Graduates find employment in both the private and public sector locally and internationally, including management consulting, investment banking, entrepreneurship, corporate finance and international business. The qualification also provides a pathway to doctoral study.

The University of Malta traces its origins to the Collegium Melitense, founded by papal charter in 1592, making it one of the oldest universities in the Mediterranean. Its main campus is at Msida, with further campuses at Valletta, Marsaxlokk and Gozo.

How tuition works

This catalogue lists 20 of its master's and doctoral programmes, almost all taught in English. Full-time postgraduate fees follow published bands: €10,800 a year for arts and business-related programmes, €13,400 for science-based ones, €14,400 for the Executive MBA, and €11,000 for doctorates. Part-time and extended versions of the same degrees spread the same total cost over more years, which is why their published annual figure is lower.

Entry Requirements (International Applicants)

Applicants must have a minimum of three years' appropriate work experience (excluding full-time study) and hold a Bachelor's degree from the University of Malta or another institution recognised by Senate. Applicants with Third Class Honours/Category III may need to demonstrate suitability through interview.

Applicants without a first cycle degree may be admitted with a Level 5 MQF diploma (90+ ECTS) plus 5 years' relevant experience, or other qualifications plus 10 years' relevant experience, evaluated under UM's Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.

English Test Requirement

IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each of Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking); TOEFL iBT 95 overall / min. 24 Writing (pre-January-2026 scale) or 5 overall / min. 5 Writing (January-2026-onwards scale); or equivalent: Cambridge Advanced Certificate Grade C or better, Pearson PTE Academic 71 (min. 65 per element), Trinity ISE III Merit in all skills, or ISET Band 6. Results must be issued within 2 years of course commencement and be a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
