About Master in Biophysics, Master of Science

The Master of Science in Biophysics at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg covers biophysical methods and their applications, grounded in current research topics. The programme addresses fundamentals in thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and molecular interactions, including analysis at the level of single cells and single molecules. Further topics include plant membrane transport systems, structural biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, integrative biology, and bioinformatics. The programme runs four semesters with entry in either winter or summer. The first year consists of two theoretical and one practical course in each of the two major topics: molecular and cellular biophysics, and molecular biology. In the third and fourth semesters, students undertake specialised research training in a chosen field, working actively on ongoing research projects. The thesis (25 ECTS) is preceded by an ungraded 12-week preparatory practical course (15 ECTS). A further 15 ECTS are selected from additional qualifications modules (assessed as pass/fail). The thesis is presented and defended in a final colloquium. The programme is offered at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg in Würzburg, Germany.
