The Binational Double Master's in Biomedical Sciences (IMBS) is a two-year joint programme between the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Freiburg. On successful completion, graduates receive both degrees: the MSc awarded by the University of Freiburg and the Maestria awarded by the University of Buenos Aires, together worth 120 ECTS. The programme is divided into three parts of eight months each. The first eight months (March to October) are spent at the University of Buenos Aires, covering theoretical modules in areas including biophysics, bioenergetics, biochemistry and molecular biology, physiology, immunology, pharmacology, toxicology, virology, neurobiology, pathology, clinical medicine, and molecular oncology, alongside an intensive Spanish language course. The second eight months (November to June) take place at the University of Freiburg in Germany, covering biostatistics, artificial intelligence, bioethics, pharmacology, toxicology, molecular oncology, cardiology, immunology, pathology, and laboratory research, with elective options such as gene editing, FACS and microscopy, and decellularisation of the human cornea, plus an intensive German language course. Students who complete the Freiburg modules also receive a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Biomedical Sciences (DAS) comprising 30 ECTS. The final eight months (July to February) are dedicated to the Master's thesis, which can be completed in either Freiburg or Buenos Aires. The programme is offered at the University of Freiburg in Freiburg im Breisgau.
