Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence

The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Passau is a 6-semester, English-taught programme starting in the winter semester. It covers the mathematical and theoretical principles underlying AI alongside practical tools including machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, and large language models. Students also engage with legal and ethical perspectives on AI. For the first two years, lectures are available in German as well, and free subject-specific language classes are offered. The core curriculum covers programming, data representation, algorithms and data structures, algorithmic complexity, and relevant mathematical foundations from linear algebra, analysis, and stochastics. The elective area allows students to go deeper into topics such as machine learning, logic, algorithmics, databases, software engineering, knowledge engineering, optimisation, and stochastics. Students also choose three minor subjects from options including Theoretical Foundations of AI, Natural Language Processing, Software Engineering, Visual Computing, Data Science, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, and Regulation of AI and Data. The programme includes a team-based AI project. Graduates may continue with programmes such as the MSc Artificial Intelligence Engineering, the MSc Computer Science, or the MSc Computational Mathematics at Passau, or pursue a doctorate.
