Bachelor of Science Advanced (EIS) (Honours) (Physics)

You will spend each week attending lectures and tutorials in core physics topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism and quantum theory, while laboratory sessions let you conduct experiments in optics, electronics and materials characterisation. From the second year onward you choose specialised subjects and begin to work on individual research projects, culminating in a substantial Honours thesis in your final year under the guidance of a faculty researcher. The department’s 0.4 m telescope and the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials provide additional opportunities for observational and materials research.

Graduates move into roles as research scientists, data analysts, medical imaging specialists, patent examiners or teaching staff in universities and technical colleges. Many find positions in R&D departments of engineering firms, government laboratories, aerospace and defence organisations, or continue to postgraduate study in physics or related disciplines. Employment spans industry, academia, health, finance and environmental modelling.
