Mathematics provides the language for analysing data and forecasting outcomes that underpin decisions in economics, finance, medicine and industry. By building models and applying statistical techniques, practitioners interpret complex information to guide policy and business strategy. Throughout the degree, students confront authentic problems drawn from industry, science and government, developing skills in problem-solving, probability, logistics and logical reasoning.

The degree suits students who have completed the equivalent of NSW HSC Mathematics Standard 2 (Band 2) and studied two units of English, with a preference for those who have tackled Mathematics Extension 1. It also welcomes non-school leavers with relevant TAFE or work experience. Graduates are prepared for roles that require strong quantitative reasoning, such as forecasting, risk analysis and modelling.

The programme offers the option to major in pure mathematics or in statistics and data science.
