Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechanical Engineering

Dubai, United Arab Emirates Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Curtin University's Dubai campus offers a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering, taught in English and accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical systems, from small components to large machinery and industrial equipment. An undergraduate program in the field typically builds on mathematics and physics fundamentals before introducing core subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, mechanics of solids, and machine design. Students learn how forces, energy and materials behave under different conditions, and apply this understanding to design components and systems that are safe, efficient and fit for purpose. Coursework often includes manufacturing processes, covering how parts are produced through methods such as machining, casting and increasingly automated production techniques, along with control systems and mechatronics, which address how mechanical systems are integrated with sensors, actuators and electronic controls. Computer-aided design and simulation software are used throughout the curriculum to model and test designs before they are built, and students typically complete laboratory work that lets them verify theoretical principles through hands-on experimentation with real equipment. Design projects are a central feature of mechanical engineering education, often culminating in a capstone project that requires students to apply engineering principles to solve an open-ended technical problem, working through the full process from specification and design through analysis and, where possible, prototyping. Graduates pursue careers as mechanical, design, manufacturing or maintenance engineers across industries including energy, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace and construction, sectors with a significant industrial base in the United Arab Emirates, and some continue to postgraduate study or professional engineering accreditation.
