Students in this programme engage in research and analysis of Asian societies, cultures, and histories through coursework in literature, religion, politics, and language. They complete a capstone seminar that involves independent research on a topic of their choice. Focus areas include Literature and Linguistics, Religion, Society and Culture, Asian Languages, East Asian Studies, South and Southeast Asian Studies.

The major requires 30 credits at the 2200-level and above, including one 3300-level and one 4400-level Asian Studies course, and at least one course from two of the four course categories. Students must demonstrate two-year proficiency in an Asian language.

Students must earn a minimum grade of B in at least two Asia content courses to apply. The major must be declared by the second semester of the junior year. Applications require approval from the director of undergraduate studies.
