Applied Data Technologies

Each week you will write and run SQL queries, model relational databases, and develop Python scripts to automate data-driven tasks. Practical labs let you extract, transform and visualise datasets, while the placement module places you in a real-world IT environment to apply your skills on live projects and reflect on professional practice.

The course’s distinctive feature is the compulsory industry placement that provides direct exposure to commercial information-system development. The programme is split into two semesters: semester 1 delivers three mandatory modules – SQL Programming, Advanced SQL Programming and Database Systems – establishing a solid foundation in data storage and manipulation. Semester 2 offers a choice of four electives, including Python Scripting, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics and Visualisation, Project Management and a 10-credit placement, totalling 60 credits over a part-time, online format lasting one to two years.
