About the Program

Students who have already developed artistic skills or a strong interest in visual storytelling and wish to work in fields such as television, film, games or digital media will find this programme appropriate. It expects a portfolio of creative work or comparable experience and a willingness to engage with both artistic and technical aspects of animation.

Animation explores how moving images convey narrative, emotion and information. The course covers the fundamentals of visual inquiry, the physics of motion, narrative construction and the use of industry software, allowing learners to translate ideas into animated sequences.

This four-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Animation is taught on the Letterkenny campus. Core modules include Visual Enquiry, Animation Principles, Narrative & Visual Storytelling and specialised production skills. Students may exit after two years with a Higher Certificate or after three years with a BA, and the programme offers the chance to shift specialisation after the first semester, subject to space.
