Bachelor in Angewandte Pflegewissenschaft BSc (bachelor)

The Angewandte Pflegewissenschaft BSc programme at Katho NRW, located in Köln, is designed to prepare you for the evolving demands of modern nursing by integrating your professional practice with the latest scientific knowledge. The programme is structured to enable you to steer nursing processes, draft expert reports, and work at the intersection of research and practice.

This degree programme offers two pathways: a full-time study, which takes four semesters after credit recognition, and a contact study mode. The contact study mode allows you to earn 24 ECTS during the final two years of your apprenticeship, later transitioning to full-time study for the remaining three semesters.

Modules in this programme cover topics such as scientific thinking, nursing as a science and profession, societal and normative frameworks, self-understanding, communication, interpersonal relationships, and practical fields. The curriculum prepares you to make evidence-based, client-centred decisions and optimize care processes. You will learn to evaluate and select nursing instruments, strategies, and methods, and bring current, interdisciplinary knowledge to professional teams.

Prof. Dr. Anke Helmbold, Professor of Nursing Science, and Carsten Orth, a scientific employee, contribute to the teaching staff. The programme also offers the possibility to deepen your knowledge in two elective modules, complete an internship abroad, and conclude your studies with a bachelor's thesis.
