About Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) Development and Manufacturing

The programme runs over a single semester on a blended format. It begins with five consecutive days of on-site training at the NIBRT facility in Dublin, after which the remainder of the semester is delivered online by ATU. The module carries 5 ECTS credits and is mandatory for the certificate.

During the on-site week students attend theory lectures and perform hands-on work in a clean-room environment, applying aseptic techniques, contamination control and quality-control assays. The online phase requires around three hours of study per week and includes preparing a lab report, a reflective report linked to the learner’s own employment and completing quizzes. The course addresses the regulatory and technical challenges of ATMP manufacturing, covering EU GMP Annex 1, FDA guidelines, GxP principles, risk assessment, SOP development and QC methods such as sterility and endotoxin testing.
