About Master in Urban Design and Sustainable Revitalisation

Applications close 15 May for the following winter semester.

The Master's programme in Urban Design and Sustainable Revitalisation focuses on revitalising existing neighbourhoods and urban landscapes of cultural significance. The curriculum is built around an interdisciplinary approach that connects architecture, urban design, urban development, and cultural heritage preservation. Through design-based projects and coursework, students work across multiple scales of the built environment. The programme offers two paths. The standard option is a four-semester degree delivered at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), with the option to spend one semester abroad. Each semester centres on a design project, progressing from urban design and rehabilitation in the first semester through broader planning and landscape architecture topics in the second and third semesters. The fourth semester is dedicated to the master's thesis, supervised by two professors. The second option is a double degree programme in partnership with Cairo University and Alexandria University in Egypt. In this track, the first semester is at BTU, the second at Cairo University, and the third at Alexandria University. The fourth semester, for the thesis, allows students to choose their base according to their topic and supervisors. Completing the double degree track results in a Master of Science from two partner universities. Applicants are expected to hold a Bachelor's degree in architecture, urban design, urban planning, regional planning, landscape planning, or landscape architecture. The programme is offered at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg in Cottbus, Germany.
