Master in Systems Engineering

Saarbrücken, Germany Taught in German Open to international students

About the Program

The Master's programme in Systems Engineering at Saarland University trains engineers who can manage the full lifecycle of complex technical systems — from initial product conception through to end-of-life recycling. The programme is grounded in the physical foundations of mechanical engineering, informatics, and electrical engineering, and students develop the ability to work across these disciplines and to understand how software and technology interact with complex industrial processes. Over four semesters, students choose a specialisation from six offered areas: production systems, systems design, sensor-actuator systems, information and communication systems, sustainable engineering, or integrated systems. Teaching spans informatics, materials science, materials engineering, and economics, and is complemented by laboratory courses, practical assignments, and seminars that integrate students into research and development projects early in their studies. The master's thesis may be completed in a departmental research group, at a cooperating research institute, or with an industrial partner in Germany or abroad. Graduates from the programme go on to work in sectors including automotive and mechanical engineering, microelectronics and automation, and medical and communications technology. The degree also provides a basis for doctoral study in the engineering sciences. The programme is based at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany.
