Summer school

Summer school is a non-degree program at SWPS University in Poland, running six weeks, taught in English, with yearly tuition of 800 EUR. The English Language Summer School is designed for students who want to quickly improve their English language competencies before starting a degree programme at a university, with twenty-five hours of instruction per week. Over the course of the programme, students work on speaking, listening comprehension, grammar, reading, and writing, with a particular focus on equipping them with the language skills needed to analyze and comprehend academic texts and to critically assess complex theories and terms. Alongside the language coursework, students also learn about aspects of Polish culture, including film, history, literature, art, and music. A six-week, English-focused summer programme of this kind is aimed at non-native speakers who need to reach a stronger academic English level before enrolling in an English-taught bachelor's or master's programme, whether at SWPS University or elsewhere. Because the schedule is intensive, with twenty-five hours of classes each week, it suits students who can dedicate their summer to focused study rather than combining it with other work or travel. The emphasis on academic reading and critical analysis, rather than only conversational English, reflects the goal of preparing participants for the kind of coursework, essays, and seminar discussion they will encounter once they start a full degree. As a non-degree programme, the summer school does not itself lead to a diploma, but successful completion is intended to leave participants better prepared, both linguistically and academically, for degree-level study taught in English.
