This five-year dual degree programme leads to a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Master of Science in Teaching in Adolescent Education. Students earn New York State Initial teaching certification for grades 7-12. The programme integrates language fluency with pedagogical training and includes field placements starting in the first two years.

Focus areas include Spanish language, Hispanic culture, adolescent education, secondary teaching, teacher certification, bilingual education.

The programme requires a total of 150 credits, combining undergraduate and graduate coursework. It includes a student teaching placement in the final year and leads to both a BA and an MST degree.

Graduates enter secondary education as certified teachers in grades 7-12 with a focus on Spanish language instruction.

Prospective students apply through Common App. Current Iona students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and sophomore standing may apply via PeopleSoft using the Five-Year Dual Degree Form.

The programme totals about 150 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, five-year duration. For international students, tuition is around the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 91% of applicants.

New Rochelle offers modern facilities, while Bronxville has historic character and a downtown with shops, cafés and restaurants. Both campuses are a short train ride from New York City. Students can also explore Iona’s campus in Westport, Ireland, where classes take place at historic Westport House on a 400-acre estate. Campus life includes athletics, student clubs, volunteering and performances.
