Sociology at Smith focuses on the dynamics of human interaction and how people are organized into groups. Students examine topics like community, social class, race, family, and popular culture to understand their own experiences and society. The program emphasizes learning to conduct social research through methods courses and faculty-assisted projects, with encouragement for junior year study abroad.
