This program combines a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Master of Science in Teaching in Adolescent Education. Students complete coursework in historical analysis, global perspectives, and pedagogical methods. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based teaching and practical classroom application. Graduates earn New York State Initial teaching certification and are prepared to teach grades 7-12.

The program requires a total of 150 credits, including 120 for the BA and 30 for the MST. Students complete field placements, student teaching, and coursework in history and education during the final year.

Graduates become certified secondary school teachers in history and social studies for grades 7-12.

Prospective students may apply through Common App. Current Iona students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and sophomore standing may apply for the dual degree program via PeopleSoft.

The programme totals about 150 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, five-year duration. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 91% of applicants.

Students can also explore Iona’s campus in Westport, Ireland, where classes take place at historic Westport House on a 400-acre estate. Campus life includes athletics, student clubs, volunteering and performances.
