The Teacher Education Program is a full-time, on-campus programme leading to an Initial license in Massachusetts for secondary or middle school teaching. It combines coursework with field experiences in Worcester Public Schools, including observation, tutoring, co-teaching, and a full practicum semester. Students complete eight education courses, including a semester of full-time student teaching, and must also complete a major in a licensure area. The programme emphasizes urban education and reflective practice within a structured sequence of school-based experiences.

Focus areas include Biology (grades 8-12), Chemistry (grades 8-12), Chinese Studies (grades 5-12), Classics (grades 5-12), English (grades 5-12), Environmental Studies (grades 5-8).

The programme requires eight education courses and a full practicum semester of student teaching. Students must also complete a major and meet subject matter knowledge requirements set by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Graduates enter roles as licensed secondary or middle school teachers in Massachusetts public schools.

Applicants must complete EDUC 167 and EDUC 169, have a 3.0 GPA in their major and overall, and submit a personal statement, unofficial transcript, two letters of recommendation, and attend an interview. Applications are due Feb. 22, 2026, and Sept. 27, 2026.

On-campus, full-time, typically completed in eight or nine semesters. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 21% of applicants.

College of the Holy Cross centers its academic experience on an exclusively undergraduate Jesuit liberal arts education. First-year students begin in Montserrat, a living and learning program where they live and study in clusters before declaring a major. Year-long seminars examine essential human questions and connect coursework with community-based learning and co-curricular activities. Students also apply classroom lessons through internships, volunteering and projects completed alongside the Worcester community.

Holy Cross is a residential college, with nearly 90% of students living on campus. More than 100 clubs and organizations offer ways to develop personal and professional interests, and 27 Division I teams form another part of campus life. Students can choose from more than 50 short-term or long-term study-abroad programs. The college also has five partnerships that support transitions to graduate study.
