This programme focuses on evidence-based reading instruction and the diagnosis and remediation of reading difficulties. Students develop expertise in literacy leadership, content-area reading, and structured language education. The curriculum integrates theory with supervised practicum experiences in reading clinics. Graduates are prepared to work with diverse learners in K-12 settings.

Focus areas include Reading Disabilities: Diagnosis & Prescription, Literacy Leadership & Instructional Coaching, Multisensory Structured Language Education, Reading in the Content Area, The Writing Process K-12, Children’s & Adolescent Literature in Reading Instruction.

The programme requires 33 credits, including 12 credits of core courses, 3 credits of practicum, 3 credits of a capstone project, and 3 credits of an elective. The Reading Specialist Certification requires 24 credits and is completed within the master’s programme.

Graduates work as reading specialists, literacy coaches, or reading interventionists in K-12 schools.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and a valid teaching certificate. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Required documents include official transcripts and a resume.

The programme totals about 33 credit hours. Online, full-time or part-time, typically completed in 2 to 3 years. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 93% of applicants.

King’s College has 1,945 undergraduate and graduate students, with 60% living on campus. Founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross from the University of Notre Dame, King’s combines Catholic education with more than 70 academic programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and certificate options. Programs span business, accounting, biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, athletic training, genetic counseling, and other fields. Classes average 15 students in major programs and 22 in the CORE curriculum. Wilkes-Barre is a small city with restaurants, arts and sports venues, parks, trails, and slopes, with access to Philadelphia and Trenton in about two hours and New York City and Baltimore in about three.
