This programme is designed for students interested in exploring fundamental questions about knowledge, ethics, and human values. It emphasizes critical thinking through close reading of philosophical texts and structured argumentation. Students engage with historical and contemporary ideas in philosophy through seminars and discussion-based courses. The curriculum supports interdisciplinary connections with programs like PPE, Environmental Studies, and Queer Studies.

Focus areas include Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind and Action, Philosophy and Social Justice.

The major requires ten courses, including PHIL 231, PHIL 232, at least three courses at the 300 level or higher, and participation in the Senior Symposium. One semester of Senior Research may count toward the 300-level requirement.

Graduates pursue careers in law, education, public policy, journalism, and research, often in roles requiring analytical reasoning and clear communication.

Students must apply through Denison University's general undergraduate admissions process. No specific prerequisites in philosophy are required for entry. Applicants must submit transcripts, standardized test scores if applicable, and a personal statement.
