About the Program

The PhD in Computer Science at RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau is structured to bring students into contact with research and research techniques at an early stage, shortening the path to dissertation work. The programme is divided into two phases. The first, graduate studies phase, focuses on subject- and research-oriented lectures and seminars and requires the preparation of a thesis proposal. The second, doctoral studies phase, is devoted to independent research and thesis preparation. Students admitted with an MSc in Computer Science or a closely related field enter directly into phase two. Alongside research training, the programme develops skills in scientific writing, presenting, and project management. The programme runs across 6 semesters, with intakes in both the winter and summer semester. If a department member with PhD supervision rights provides support including funding, applicants can be forwarded for direct admission at any time.
