NextGen Engineers – Advanced Training Courses for a Sustainable Tomorrow

NextGen Engineers is a two-week intensive course at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar focused on civil engineering challenges within the context of sustainability. The course covers specialised topics including polymer-modified concretes, simulation and advanced modelling, optimisation design for reliability and efficiency in civil engineering structures, wind forces on buildings and structures, and the assessment of historical and existing masonry structures under various load conditions including seismic events. State-of-the-art design, analysis, and simulation methods are taught throughout, with an emphasis on integrating sustainable practices in preserving and retrofitting existing structures. The programme integrates the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across its modules, asking participants to consider the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of engineering decisions. The course includes lectures by international experts, on-site visits to building sites and companies, and group projects that simulate real-world engineering tasks. Specialised topics are developed together with participants within the group project framework. The average group size is 20 participants.
