This programme allows students to create a custom major or minor that crosses traditional academic boundaries. It requires a coherent plan of study not available in existing programmes. Students must complete a writing-intensive course and a capstone project that integrates their learning. The major must include courses from at least two disciplines and maintain academic depth across multiple fields.

A student-designed major consists of 12 to 18 courses, including foundational, advanced, and capstone components. At least six courses must be at the 300-level or above, and no more than half of the courses can come from a single discipline.

Graduates pursue careers in creative fields, research, and interdisciplinary roles that require self-directed academic planning and synthesis of knowledge.

Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to propose a self-designed major or minor. Proposals must be submitted by October 1 for fall approval or March 1 for spring approval. Two faculty advisers from different disciplines must support the proposal.

On-campus, full-time or part-time, with no fixed duration; typically completed during junior and senior years. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 34% of applicants.

Trinity College's historic campus supports a broad undergraduate education in the capital city of Hartford. Students choose from more than 50 majors, 15 disciplinary minors, 25 interdisciplinary minors, and over 900 courses. Academic options include engineering, computer science, data science, neuroscience, environmental science, international studies, public policy and law, and many fields in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. Students may also design their own interdisciplinary major. About 15 percent pursue a double major, while an additional 25 percent major in an interdisciplinary field. A 9:1 student-to-faculty ratio supports close interaction with professors.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through more than 200 annual internship and research opportunities, study away, entrepreneurship, community service, athletics, and other co-curricular experiences. The Career and Life Design Center supports students and alumni as they move toward careers, graduate education, or other postgraduate experiences. Hartford provides access to internships, research, cultural activities, and city-based pursuits, while New York City and Boston are a short drive away. Trinity has more than 2,100 full-time undergraduates, with students from 80 countries represented on campus. The College competes in Division III and the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Institutional financial support is also part of the student experience, with $84 million committed to financial aid and scholarships in the reported year.
