FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg

Master in MSc Advanced Materials and Processes (MAP)

Erlangen, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Advanced Materials and Processes (MAP) is a two-year, English-taught Master's programme at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg that integrates Materials Science and Engineering with Chemical and Biological Engineering. The programme is built on the principle that novel materials and the processes required to produce them are inseparable, and that advances in one field depend on progress in the other. Students follow an individually tailored curriculum, learning fundamentals in both disciplines before specialising in two of four focal subject areas: Advanced Processes, Biomaterials and Bioprocessing, Computational Materials Science and Process Simulation, and Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology. The programme involves small group teaching, early engagement in research through mini projects and literature reviews, and optional additional qualification modules providing extra credits for either academic or industry-oriented careers. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis as an independent research project. The programme spans 4 semesters and starts in the winter semester. Graduates continue into doctoral programmes at a high rate, and the programme also prepares students for roles in sectors including automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, food technology, health and safety, and pharmaceuticals. The programme is offered at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg in Erlangen, Germany.
