Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg

Master in Micro- and Nanoelectronics

Cottbus, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Micro- and Nanoelectronics Master's programme is designed for physicists and electrical engineers who want to build careers in the semiconductor industry and research. It expands on Bachelor-level knowledge of solid-state physics and electronics, deepening expertise in semiconductor physics, technology, and components, integrated circuit design across different technologies, and assembly and integration technology. Application areas covered include communication, radar, and sensor technology. Spanning four semesters, the programme opens with introductory modules that align students' prior knowledge: those coming from physics learn about electronics, while electrical engineers cover solid-state physics and quantum mechanics. Subsequent modules are organised into three subject areas — Technology and Devices, Circuit Design, and Applications — from which students choose compulsory electives. Five additional elective modules allow students to shape a personal focus. The programme also includes an interdisciplinary general studies module, a research project, and a Master's thesis in the final semester. Leading German semiconductor research institutes, including the Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics (IHP), the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microintegration and Reliability (FhG-IZM), and the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (FhG-IMPS), participate actively in teaching and offer facilities for the research module or Master's thesis. The programme is delivered in English at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg in Cottbus, Germany.
