The Master's in Mechanical and Process Engineering at TU Bergakademie Freiberg is a four-semester programme that combines knowledge from mechanical engineering and process engineering, covering both the design and operation of machinery and plants alongside process engineering methods. The first semester provides a common foundation for all students through compulsory courses in thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluid dynamics, particle technology, process equipment, and endurance and design. The second semester develops the theoretical framework and includes project work in small teams. The third semester introduces design methods and at least one numerical tool, with elective options in management, economics, and finance. The fourth semester is devoted to the research-oriented Master's thesis, which must be presented and defended. Graduates are prepared for careers in academic research and research centres as well as industrial sectors including automotive, metallurgy, and materials manufacturing and processing.
