Master's in Digital Transformation (MDT)

Dortmund, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master's in Digital Transformation (MDT) at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts focuses on the full design flow and technology stack for digital solutions, with particular emphasis on software and cloud technologies. The curriculum is built around three pillars: software engineering processes, methods, and tools for complex software; cross-domain digital systems design and deployment; and user-centred development that involves users as co-producers. Business models and the socio-economic impact of digitalisation are also addressed. The programme runs over four semesters, including the Master's thesis. The first two semesters each consist of five compulsory modules. In the second and third semesters, students may pursue a chosen specialisation through elective modules covering areas such as machine learning, IoT and edge computing, digital business ecosystems, and human-centred digitalisation, among others. The research project and Master's thesis in the third and fourth semesters may be completed in cooperation with a company or within a university research project. Teaching is primarily delivered in block lecture format, making part-time study alongside employment feasible. Students may participate in a semester abroad at one of the programme's partner universities, and a double degree option is available with KU Leuven (Belgium) and Astana IT University (Kazakhstan). The MDT programme is delivered at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund.
