The MA in Political Science at the University of Mannheim is a four-semester research-oriented programme with a strong emphasis on empirical-analytical methods. Students develop advanced skills in quantitative methodology and gain in-depth knowledge of the political system of the European Union. The programme spans a range of subfields including International Relations, International Political Economy, Comparative Political Behaviour, Political Sociology, and Quantitative Methods. In the first semester, students extend their grounding in quantitative methods through modules in statistics, game theory, and research design. The second and third semesters are devoted to core subfield modules in international politics, international political economy, comparative political behaviour, and comparative government. Students also select one of three Research Modules that run across the second and third semesters, offering intensive methodological and analytical training through seminars. The programme begins in the winter semester. Students are expected to choose a specialisation for their Master's thesis, which they write in the final module.
