PhD in Maria Flavia Maiorano

The research focus of Maria Flavia Maiorano’s PhD is the odeporic writings by Italian salonnières and Arcadian poetesses from the late 18th to early 19th centuries.

These texts, including some unpublished works, encompass various genres such as diaries, illustrated volumes, and poetic compositions. The travels described in these writings serve an educational purpose similar to the Grand Tour for foreigners, marking the culmination of the educational journey these authors undertook in their respective salons and the Accademia dell'Arcadia. This project aims to highlight the cultural formation and mobility of women in these environments, using methods ranging from historical-philological to comparative, cultural, and feminist studies.
