Master in Intelligent Interactive Systems (IISY)

Bielefeld, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master's programme in Intelligent Interactive Systems trains students to analyse, design, and develop cognitive systems capable of perceiving complex or open environments and interacting with them intelligently. A defining feature of such systems is their capacity to learn and adapt to unknown or changing environments, tasks, or users. Relevant application areas include robotics, autonomous agents, assistive systems, recommender systems, and web information systems. The programme runs over four semesters, starting in the winter semester. It is structured around three thematic blocks: Interaction Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Autonomous Systems Engineering. The first semester provides foundational modules across all three blocks. The second and third semesters offer advanced and applied modules in each specialisation, available in standard or in-depth versions. A Scientific Research Methods module runs across the first and second semesters. The third semester also includes a group project involving three to five students working independently on practical work. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. Alongside technical knowledge, the programme explicitly develops interdisciplinary research methods, critical thinking, and teamwork. The programme is offered at Bielefeld University in Bielefeld.
