About the Program

The Bachelor of Arts in Information and Communication Design at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences addresses the practical and conceptual demands of communication design, including user interface design, packaging design, information visualisation, and brand identity. The programme places emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, working alongside IT experts, psychologists, natural scientists, engineers, and economists. Topics such as User Experience Design and Artificial Intelligence are part of the curriculum. The seven-semester programme starts in the winter semester. The first year introduces creative, technical, and theoretical foundations, including illustration and photography. From the third semester, students undertake practical design projects in areas such as corporate design, editorial and book design, interface design, motion graphics, information design, and exhibition design, often in collaboration with external companies and institutions. Technical skills in interface design, online design, and motion design are developed alongside project work through the fourth semester. The sixth semester is spent abroad or on a work placement, and the seventh semester involves the Bachelor's thesis as a practical design project accompanied by an academic paper. The course is taught in English throughout. Facilities include Mac labs, a digital print shop, media labs, a photo studio, and a FabLab workshop of over 600 m². The programme is offered at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort, Germany.
