Bachelor in Illustration (BA)

The BA in Illustration at SRH University Berlin is a seven-semester programme that trains students to communicate through visual media, developing skills in drawing, storytelling, and imagery across both manual and digital techniques. The programme runs from October or April each year. Students learn to convey messages through drawing and to develop an understanding of the relationship between image and text, covering research methods, conception, and visual implementation. The curriculum includes manual printing techniques such as silkscreen, risography, and etching alongside digital applications, software, typography, editorial design, and editorial illustration. Narrative illustration and storytelling principles guide work on graphic novels, children's books, and other formats. Students also learn to bring illustrations into three-dimensional spaces. Throughout the programme, students work with professional clients on real assignments and visit illustration and animation studios. The programme concludes in the seventh semester with portfolio development, entrepreneurship and media law, a writing workshop, and the Bachelor's thesis.
