Health and Welfare Programme

The University of Inland Norway offers the Health and Welfare programme. This is a certificate or diploma level study. The programme focuses on historical and academic concepts of health and welfare. It explores their meanings for research, policy, and service delivery nationally and globally.

Programme Structure and Content

The course builds on health and welfare from four scientific perspectives. These include health science, social science, public health science, and sports science. It examines the suitability and consequences of applying different perspectives. Topics cover interdisciplinarity, research ethics, user involvement, gender perspectives, health literacy, and sustainability goals. The course combines lectures, seminars, group work, presentations, and self-study. It challenges PhD projects and reflects on them in light of the course themes. This aims to develop a multidisciplinary understanding of project design and knowledge generation.

Dates and Attendance

The programme is held in Elverum. It is a full-time study. The study duration is from week 37 to week 38. Teaching sessions are scheduled for September. Specific preparation is required before the teaching assembly. The teaching assembly takes place in week 38. An individual home exam essay is due in October. Mandatory attendance is required for all teaching sessions. An 80% attendance rate is necessary for all assembly days.

Admission and Costs

The application deadline is August 15, 2026. Applicants need a Master's degree of at least 120 credits. Participants admitted to the Health and Welfare PhD program are prioritized. The course is free for all registered PhD candidates. External participants will be charged a study fee of NOK 3,000.
