This programme prepares students for careers in geology, environmental consulting, and earth science research. It emphasizes hands-on laboratory work and field studies in diverse locations including the Adirondacks, Panama, and New Zealand. Students engage in faculty-supervised research using advanced equipment such as mass spectrometers and scanning electron microscopes. The curriculum includes opportunities to co-author papers and present at major scientific conferences.

Focus areas include paleoclimate, volcanology, geochemistry, sustainable energy, environmental management, tsunami geology.

The geosciences major requires 36 credits of coursework, including core classes, electives, and research components. Students complete a dedicated term in New Zealand focused on sustainable energy and environmental management.
