Master in Geodesy and Geoinformatics – Specialisation in Geomatics

Geodesy and Geoinformatics with a specialisation in Geomatics draws on mathematics, physics, and computer science, with connections to environmental science, law, and social sciences. The subject covers engineering and geodetic monitoring of structures, capturing environmental information, guiding machines and vehicles, and remote sensing of the Earth. Geodata produced by modern measurement technology finds application in regional planning, location-dependent mobile services, and navigation systems. The four-semester Master's programme builds on a broad Bachelor's foundation, offering students the chance to study specific fields at an advanced level and to concentrate in selected disciplines. Research and advanced applications developed through selected projects sit at the centre of the curriculum. In the first two semesters, students engage with core areas including engineering geodesy, physical geodesy, positioning and navigation, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geographic information systems, and land and real estate management. Two parallel project seminars involve small-group work on complex research-oriented tasks. Beyond Geomatics, the programme in Geodesy and Geoinformatics at Leibniz University Hannover also offers a specialisation in Navigation and Field Robotics, and a third track in Remote Sensing and GIS is planned from winter semester 2025/26. The chosen specialisation must be selected at the point of application. The programme is taught in Hannover, Germany.
