You will split your time between classroom instruction, hands-on labs and two mandatory practicum placements in residential, vocational or community-based agencies. In class you study basic care skills, behavioural support, person-centred planning and quality-of-life enhancement, while the practicum gives you direct experience supporting individuals of all ages and abilities. You also develop interpersonal, professional and employability skills through simulations and reflective practice.

Graduates are prepared for roles such as disability support worker, supportive living worker, educational assistant or community residential worker. Employers include health-care and long-term-care facilities, schools, group homes and community agencies, and many find further study or registration opportunities. These positions often lead to stable employment with competitive wages and the possibility of advancing into supervisory or specialised roles.
